I can’t help but to continue my topic on the Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom murder, although don’t worry, this post will be much less crime-related and much more bias-related.

I have to commend the AP for actually addressing the topic of complaint, although I think that they took the wrong spin on our anger. See, it seems that this is being spun into a huge racial issue, which to some it may be, but to most it seems that the anger is directed towards the terribly skewed reporting by the media; that certain crimes and actions are covered ad nauseum whereas others are all but ignored. The racial matter is an unfortunate byproduct that surfaces because it is the only explanation that we can come up with for the reporting disparity!

The AP article starts out by saying:

“Bloggers and media critics are complaining that the national media has ignored the rape and murder of a young Knoxville couple because of the racial implications of the story.”

In retort I would simply like to ask anybody to come up with a different reason for the lack of coverage. If the vacuum of media coverage is anything but racially motivated, please make the reasons known. Until then, we can only assume that the problem is racial.

The problem I am seeing is that there is a certain degree of fear that white people have when it comes to standing up for themselves. When there is a white-on-black crime, the black community rises up and makes sure that the whole country knows about it, and the media perpetuates it because it makes good news. When the roles are reversed, where is the same attention? In part, the attention seems to be quelled because people think that when somebody stands up for white people that they’re racist white supremacists, and the media shys away from any implication with white supremacists

However, where they’re wrong is that most people who are outraged about this sort of thing are not racist and they are certainly not white supremacists. They are ordinary people, like me, who are outraged over the lack of fairness and simply demand the same sort of equal treatment that minorities demand.

Think that there isn’t a degree of severe inequality here? Think about some of these excuses that appear in the AP article.

“Prosecutors and defense attorneys also declined comment, though one defense attorney said that continued rumors about rallies against ‘black-on-white crime’ might raise concerns of tainting a jury pool and the need to move the trial.”

Need I bring up the Sean Bell issue here? There were rallies, some of which were being led by political leaders. Then there was Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson’s involvement in the case. For this defense attorney to say that there is concern about tainting a jury pool because of race-related issues is ridiculous. If that were the case, then Sharpton, Jackson et al should have been quelled over the same concerns in the Sean Bell case.

Then there is a comment from Ezra Maize, the president of the Knoxville NAACP:

“We don’t want to add fuel to the fire. Our goal is simply to keep the peace. At the same time, you cannot cast judgment as to who did it or who did not do it. That is not our place.”

Who cannot cast judgment? You or us? I hate to be the bearer of the harsh truth, but when the crimes are reversed, and you’re dealing with white-on-black crimes, the NAACP and scores of other groups are quick to point fingers and even quicker to point out the race issue. I don’t want to inflame the racial matter of this issue any more than I have to, but come on! This sounds like a blatant attempt to downplay the crime by the NAACP, which is very contrary to the usual path they choose to pursue. Just a quick Yahoo! search on the topic reveals a trove of proof.

Excuses aside, what about the denial? According to the AP article, Ted Gest, president of the Criminal Justice Journalists group, not only says that “interracial crime tends to get more coverage than when the criminal and victim are of the same race,” but also says:

“But I can’t say that this one would have had any more coverage if five whites had been accused of doing these things to two blacks, absent a blatant racial motive.”

How ignorant can this guy be? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the truth behind this issue, and for this guy, the leader of a journalist group, to say something like this is an absolute travesty!

First off, interracial crimes get more attention, yes, but it’s not a blanket statement that can be made. White-on-black interracial crimes get more media coverage than same-race crime, but black-on-white crime often falls into the same void as same-race crimes.

Furthermore, to think for one minute that if this had been a crime committed by five white against a young black couple, the outrage and media coverage would be heard in depths of outer space! Anybody who denies the truth behind this is obviously living somewhere in deep space, and has no clue what’s really going on in this country right now. After all, if the Duke rape case could get the attention and outrage it did because of its supposed racial implications, then just imagine what an actual horrific crime would achieve as far as media coverage and public outrage. I’m sorry, Ted, you’re living in a fantasy world.

Ted Gest also makes one last mistak, by adding an excuse to his denial. He says:

“As bad as this crime is, the apparent absence of any interest group involvement or any other ‘angle’ might also explain the lack of coverage.”

So, we don’t have Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the NAACP or the Urban League fighting for us. Is that a surprise? Any pro-white interest group is immediately labeled as “bad” and is ignored by the media for fear of being cast in a bad light by minority groups.

I cant help but to be disgusted by these pathetic attempts to justify a blatant problem. The issue isn’t racism or reverse racism here. The problem is an inequality that is being thrust upon us by the fear of offending a minority or interest group and by the fear of being thought of as politically incorrect. Out of all of the excuses I have heard so far, I can’t say that any of them are even slightly convincing, and do nothing but solidify in my mind that there is a fear in standing up for somebody if they’re white because of the negative attention that might come from the Sharptons out there. Nobody worries what the white reaction to media actions will be, which is something that should change. I don’t advocate dropping to the same immature levels that the minority interest groups seem to be at these days, but I do advocate demanding fair reporting, free from the fear of offending somebody by reporting the truth.
