Meet Jeanne Assam. She is a hero. A real hero. Not one of those average, boring heroes. She saved lives – perhaps many lives, while putting her own life at risk in the process. She put herself between a madman and innocent people and did what needed to be done to preserve life. She fought fire with fire – with a gun. Had she not been there and armed, had she not known how to use a gun in a time of crisis, the situation would have ended much differently. But that is not what happened. While two people unfortunately lost their lives, Jeanne stopped it there. She acted.
Of course, this is quite contrary to the liberal mantra of “guns are bad.” After all, isn’t the end goal to disarm the law abiding population so that the only guns out there are in the hands of the bad guys and the police? Isn’t that how we will all end up safe and happy?
I would like to refer these people to the survivors of New Life Church, who may not be here to answer if it wasn’t for the actions of an armed citizen who was volunteering at her church.
The thing is, even police will admit that in situations like this one, by the time they get to the scene, it’s all over. By that time, all that can be done is contain the scene and call the county coroner. But if you have trained and law abiding citizens on the scene and in a position to react immediately, the outcome is very different.
Just look at how two back-to-back incidents ended here: in Omaha, a shooter killed a number of people in a gun-free zone. Could things have turned out differently had an armed citizen been on scene? Take these thoughts from a man who was there:
“Honestly, and as God as my witness, when I saw him shooting and as I watched for a few seconds trying to figure out what he was going to do and what I should do, the thought that went through my mind was, ‘If I had a gun, I have a perfect shot.’
Yes, a perfect shot. I had a full side profile, I was close, and nothing was visible behind him except a wall. I had a clear shot during the second round of fire. I told this to every cop I came in contact with. The interviewer agreed.
When I first realized that I had no gun, fear instantly struck me, along with anger, and severe panic.”
He goes on to talk about his ability to carry a gun in Omaha:
“I do not have a Concealed Handgun Permit. I have completed the training class, but I kept putting off applying for the permit because I thought it is useless. In the places I would need a gun most, I am not allowed to have it. But I will not be a person living in fear and not go to Van Maur because they don’t allow guns.”
An interesting perspective, isn’t it? Now fast forward to Colorado for a moment. Jeanne Assam found herself in a very similar situation. The difference was that she had a gun and was carrying it at the time.
Would the finale in Omaha have been different if another average citizen would have been armed and trained?
Hindsight is always 20/20.
But where is the media on this? I have poured over the articles coming from the mainstream media and have yet to find any mention of this. Worse yet, the local mainstream media is downplaying her heroic actions by scrutinizing her background as a former Minneapolis police officer and telling the world about her past actions. In some media circles, it seems that the underlying tone is twofold: the shooter was a victim who needed psychological help and that Assam acted as a vigilante.
How screwed up do you have to be to dig into something like this and try your damndest to find something negative with which you can mar the actions of somebody who selflessly acted and saved an untold number of lives? What is wrong with the liberals and their media lackeys in this country where something like this still gets hit with the spin of liberal media bias? Do they truly hate guns and the thought of an armed citizen so much that they are more willing to glorify the asshole shooter in this case than the gun-toting woman who stopped him?
Since these soulless people have no shame, I am embarrassed for them. I am am embarrassed to share the same land and breathe the same air as these people. They have no interest i the safety and welfare of law abiding citizens. It doesn’t make for good talking points with their agenda, and that’s sad. I know that there is no objectivity in the media any longer, but at some point the ridiculous becomes ludicrous and their agendas become woefully transparent. This is one of those times, and it is unfortunate that they don’t have enough of a soul to feel ashamed of what they are doing.

Great post, Jeanne Assam is trully a hero and should be commended. The fact that the left would spin this into her being the bad guy vigilante, and the original shooter as a victim tells us all we need to know about the liberal mindset.
How many lives could have been saved at Virginia Tech had not the law to allow students at the school to carry guns been repealed?
I am definatley grateful for this lady. from what I hear it was pretty traumatic for her. But she didnt blink.
What if the recent massacre at the New Life church in Colorado springs had taken place in a Mosque instead ?
Do you think we would see the same calm and prevailng forgivenss in the worlds muslim population that we see coming out of Americas Christians , the New Life church and the victims loved ones ? I doubt it.
The worst and most challenging statement I’ve heard coming from America so far has come from Gov. Bill Ritter Jr.
“When innocent people are killed in a religious facility or place of worship, we must voice a collective sense of outrage,” Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. of Colorado said in a statement.
Where are the muslims who should be speaking out against the assholes that have hi jacked their religion and morphed it into some obscure practice that seems to of come from nothing but a cauldron of evil ?
I hope they are watching what Americans, and especially Christians are doing right now as a lesson as to what the real American is all about !
You have said it before, but I think it is important enough to repeat…If you make a “gun-free” zone, all you do is say to would be criminals “come in, you will find no resistance here because we have disarmed everybody for you”. Something to think about while we are all running around thinking that it’s a level playing field and there aren’t assholes out there just waiting to take advantage of these things. LEARN to use a gun. It’s power. I know I will now.
Towards the end of the time I lived in uptown, I had begun to seriously research guns and how to go about aquiring a conceal and carry license, due to the rough neighborhood. After looking at a site that showed me their was 50 ro 60 sex offenders living within just 100’s of feet from me back then, I cringe. I’m still considering it for instances just like this. I guess I would throw caution to the wind and take my gun into these gun-free zones. Its not like I plan to bust a cap into a cashier because they won’t give me a refund….but I wonder how the media would take on a story about someone unlawfully carrying in a gun-free zone and then saving lives by doing so?
As I have said before, a gun in the hands of a citizen who knows how and when to use one is the best way to ensure the safety of the community – not to mention one’s own personal safety.
Besides, is there really anything sexier than a woman who can competently handle a gun? it gets me all hot under the collar every time
You’re aware that she was an armed security guard right? And that this particular incident doesn’t provide a single reason for widespread arming of citizens. What it does do however, is provide a good argument for armed security guards.
You’re aware that her services were strictly voluntary, and the term “security guard” is quite inaccurate considering that other “security guard” were contracted and unarmed.
She was working as a private citizen at the time she acted.
That is correct. She was not acting as an “official” hired security guard at the time. She was volunteering at her own church when this happened. However, to be an armed security guard in Colorado, you have to have a concealed carry permit. So she may have had a job as a security guard somewhere, but she was nothing more than an armed citizen with a concealed carry permit working as a volunteer at her church that day.
