About Me

Just who is this guy?

face You want to know about me? What’s there to say? My daily handle is Ryan Evans. I have a good blue collar job in manufacturing in small town Wisconsin where I also live. I have lived all over the country; both in small towns and big cities so I have a good grasp as to how the world works on both ends of the spectrum. I am ex-military (Navy) and damned proud of it. I work hard, pay my taxes and am in a loving relationship with a wonderful woman. I work hard so I can enjoy life, which means that few things please me more than hand made cigars, single malt scotch and imported black licorice. I take great pride in being an American, and will always fight for what I feel is right, even if that makes me seem politically incorrect or insensitive. I don’t care if you don’t want to be my friend; I tell it how it is and if you can’t handle that, then keep moving.

I’m a political and economical conservative, but a liberal (not liberal left) thinker. I hate social programs and people who use (abuse) them. I like guns and the stock market and the companies that make honest money and help to propel the economy of this great nation. I support lower taxes, immigration reform and less government. If I could afford it, I’d drive a Hummer, and as such I don’t buy into the global warming swindle. I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman (you’d better ask me about this one before labeling me a bigot too). I believe in preserving American ideals and feel that American civil liberties should apply to Americans before they apply to the rest of the world.

I’m logical and rational and will always be truthful and honest about my beliefs and views. Love me or hate me, but spare me your indifference. I am always open for debate or support, so long as you approach me with respect. Angry attacks and uneducated, poorly researched arguments will not be tolerated, and I will label you as not being worth my time or effort. With that said, feel free to engage me on any topic… I welcome the challenge.

For those interested, I am also a contributing writer at True North, The Grizzly Groundswell, and Say Anything. I have also had my work published by The Alliance for American Manufacturing which you can check out here, and have been featured in ProLifeBlogs here.

Malum quo communius eo peius!

Some of my favorite quotes…

“He saw an evening when he sat slumped across his desk in that office. It was late and his staff had left; so he could lie there alone, unwitnessed. He was tired. It was as if he had run a race against his own body, and all the exhaustion of years, which he had refused to acknowledge, had caught him at once and flattened him against the desk top. He felt nothing, except the desire not to move. He did not have the strength to feel–not even to suffer. He had burned everything there was to burn within him; he had scattered so many sparks to start so many things–and he wondered whether someone could give him now the spark he needed, now when he felt unable ever to rise again. He asked himself who had started him and kept him going. Then he raised his head. Slowly, with the greatest effort of his life, he made his body rise until he was able to sit upright with only one hand pressed to the desk and a trembling arm to support him. He never asked that question again.”

From “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand

“Something given has no basis in value. When you vote, you are exercising political authority, you’re using force. And force my friends is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived… Whether it’s exerted by ten or ten billion, political authority is violence by degree. The people we call citizens have earned the right to wield it… Naked force has settled more issues in history than any other factor. The contrary opinion ‘violence never solves anything’ is wishful thinking at its worst. People who forget that always pay… They pay with their lives and their freedom.”

From “Starship Troopers”

“Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now… unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong, and somehow I was wrong about everything.”

    Hello arclight,

Your blog is very nicely done. Very nicely done indeed.

The antisocialist recently saw that you came to micky2’s defense over at black tygrrr, and he is writing to cordially invite you to come read a more detailed response to all the religious myths you good people propogate. You can find his response posted currently at the antisocialist dot com.

Just incidentally, he is astonished, after reading what he’s read here, to find that you actually hold the positions you espouse over at black tygrrr - concerning God’s role in the foundation this great nation.

Thank you. Best of all possible regards.

global warming is becoming such a obvious problem that someone somewhere other than Al Gore needs to step up to help drive the bus!

You’re just such a cliché! O My God!!! Americans have a ‘name’ in the world because of narrow minded, conservative people like you.
You don’t know anything about the world just because you have lived in small and big towns in the States. The States are just one part of the world. Ever visited Asia? Europe? There’s more to the world than the USA. Really.

FYI: I’m Dutch. Live in Belgium now. My mother is American.

I SO hope Al Gore is gonna win in 2008. The world will be a better place.

Ah, but you are so wrong. I have been all over the world thanks to the Navy. Don’t make assumptions about me when you have no clue what you’re talking about. It’s amusing that you have the audacity to call me narrow minded when it is quite evident that YOU, my dear, are the narrow minded one who is so blinded by her hatred of America that she fails to even understand why.

  9. lisainluik said,

I’m not at all blinded by hatred. My mom’s an American, I’ve visited many states and love many places.
I’m not making assumptions. You’re describing yourself here for people to know who you are. What I read is a lot of clichés. What many Europeans do not like about many Americans, is exactly your profile. Too conservative. Too much into ‘This Great Nation’. It’s not thát a great a nation anymore. Sorry.

Hey liseinluik, get a clue. Grow up or not, but you can stay overseas with that nasty attitude of yours. We are one of the greatest countries in the world. Period. Pride in my country. Damn right! We chose to break away from oppressiveness. Don’t you think that there is some resentment there? Every country has good and bad. What is wrong with pride in your homeland? Please tell me.

Thanks again. I am rather new to blogland, however I think blogrolled (as above) means I am putting you all on my site. Love the info and the

    I also like the site.

I’m not to familiar with blogs although I am trying to make one. Keep up the good work.

Eventually some of the surfers and chatters might get a grip and realize there are real people online that really concerned about the direction America, and the world are taking.

I wondered why people “believe” in global warming when science isn’t based on belief. Why is it that apocalyptic enviro-nutters insist the signs of global warming are “obvious”, when all the beach houses are still there out here in Cali?

It’s the Flood myth, a timeless story in most cultures. It goes like this: Mankind has sinned and the seas will rise to wipe us out unless we repent!

That’s 100% religion folks not science, but the liberals have convinced themselves they aren’t religious and have become vunerable to enviro brainwashing using religious themes that are intrinsic in the human mind. Don’t believe the hype!

  17. arclightzero said,

    December 21, 2007 at 4:57 pm

Hi, Mark, thanks for stopping by. I agree that this is just like the flood myth (good analogy by the way!). Global warming is 100% faith based, using fear, guilt and scientific jargon to accomplish a goal.

But so long as people like us continue to stand up and call bullshit on this, they won’t ever win.

Just had to say something about this quote. It should be used for recruitment purposes.

“Sure, your guilt might force you to vote Democrat, but secretly deep down inside you long for the Republicans to lower your taxes, ignore the poor, brutalize prisoners, dictate what goes on in your bedrooms and rule you with an iron fist.”
    -Sideshow Bob

I kind of agree. Except the part about the bedroom…Guess I’m still a fence-sitter!

    Lisainluik has you spot on.

Its flag weaving robots like you that have turned the world off America post 9-11.

  20. Ryan said,

    January 23, 2008 at 9:44 pm

BDE, don’t take this the wrong way or anything, but Lisa is full of shit and you’re talking out of your ass.

Explain to me how I am a flag weaving robot. If having some pride on your country (especially as a veteran) pisses off the rest of the world, that’s their problem and they can deal with it. If the rest of the world thinks I should put globalist views and collective well-being above national pride, they have another thing coming.

  21. BDE said,

    January 29, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

    (Samuel Johnson)

Your view of the world is distorted by your patriotism. You can say I’m talking out of my ass but I’m just telling you how many people in the rest of the world views guys like you.

Its the uncritical uberpatriotism of many Americans that has squandered the goodwill that many felt for the US immediately after 9-11.

Your country’s cowboy justice (and the massive support it seems to have from the American populace) in international affairs is a real turn off to civilized human beings.

  22. Ryan said,

    January 29, 2008 at 6:47 pm

BDE, how should I be? Should I be humble? Should I bow my head in shame and elevate the rest of the world above me (us)? Should I feel guilty for what I have and the opportunities that I have had? What?

What view of the world are you referring to? You say that my world view is distorted, but I don’t know how you can make such a judgment based on… Well, I’m not sure what the hell you’re basing it on.

If you would bother to read my posts, you would find that I am critical of everything that is going on in this country right now. But for you to come here and insult me and insinuate that I am not civilized while you are just blows my mind. Where do you get off being so arrogant?

  23. BDE said,

    January 30, 2008 at 8:33 am

You should realize that your country is no better or worse than any other when it comes to foreign affairs. The US has a legacy of intervention in the affairs of other nations and a history of using violence in such a way as to be considered war crimes, except of course that the actions of the most powerful nation are never classified as war crimes. Great Nations do what they will, Lesser Nations accept what they must (Thucydides).

I make my judgement based on having read over some of your posts which exude missplaced patriotism.

I did not mean to insult you nor did I insinuate you were not civilized (I said the actions of your country are distasteful to civilized people).

I’m not arrogant, just a realist whio was trying to relay to you what many of us outside the US feel about the US’ recent history.
