A Priceless Editorial

Pelosi’s Price

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY

Congress: Americans expect and need a Speaker of the House who offers common-sense leadership to direct bipartisan legislative action. Nancy Pelosi is not up to that task, and our nation is the loser.

It’s bad enough that Rep. Pelosi refuses to embrace reality, evaluate facts and oversee meaningful debate. But the hissy fits she throws against President Bush and the Republican minority are worse yet. This is a sad situation.

Pelosi’s reaction to Bush’s lifting of the ban on offshore drilling is a perfect example. She called the action a giveaway of “more public resources to the very same oil companies that are sitting on 68 million acres of federal lands they’ve already leased.”

The key phrase is “public” resources — not Democratic resources or Pelosi’s resources — and polls clearly show Americans are behind coastal drilling. The speaker knows that.

Her demonizing of Big Oil doesn’t make sense, either. The companies want to get oil out of the ground. Their exploratory technology is very effective, and they’re drilling extensively. But not all lease properties have oil that’s readily recoverable.

Pelosi says the president’s action is a “gift of more profits for the oil companies.” Does she prefer that foreign, and often hostile, nations make the profits? Well, they are. She knows that, too.

“The Bush plan is a hoax,” Pelosi charges, ignoring the fact that we know large reserves are located off our shores, in Western oil-shale deposits and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Bush says let’s get it as quickly as possible, drilling responsibly off our shores, in the West’s oil shale formations and on 2,000 acres of the 19 million acres in ANWR. Prudhoe Bay, North America’s largest oil field, has proved we can do so and not hurt the environment. It can be done, and America needs it. Pelosi also knows that.

Pelosi wonders that if congressional action is so important, “why didn’t the Republicans pass it when they were in control?” She seems to doubt the need for any debate on drilling. This is scary.

The two parties have bumped heads on this issue since the Carter years. Surely the speaker remembers 1995, when she voted against a GOP bill to drill in ANWR. It passed both the House and Senate only to be vetoed by President Clinton. She knows that as well.

Last weekend, Pelosi responded to Bush’s criticism of Congress by calling him “a total failure.” It was a telling interview, with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer pressing her on topics including offshore drilling. Each time she blamed everybody but Congress.

The real failure is Pelosi’s refusal to address reality and lead. The nation knows that.

My Answer to the Global Warming "Crisis"

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:44 pm by Ryan

Yep, since we’re all doomed anyway, I thought I may as well have a good time.

So, to celebrate global warming, I bought a 1947 Plymouth. Yep, Flathead straight 6, unanalyzed exhaust, horrid gas mileage and crankcase vents that spew gases into the atmo. It’s a greenie’s worst nightmare. I can’t even imagine the carbon footprint that it has ;)

It’s fun! Hell, if we can’t have fun with doomsday, what’s the point, right?

Debuting Tomorrow…

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:17 pm by Ryan

Tomorrow will hail the debut of my newsletter, The Zero Report, which will be my new bi-weekly report on what’s going on around the world and the nation. This is my attempt to lighten my blogging to-do list, as I have way too many things I would like to comment on and just not enough time to write full blog entries on them. So instead I will compile headlines and news items and tag them with short little opinions in the hopes of getting more out there and maybe opening up additional conversation on world and national events that just don’t make it into my main blog.

My goal is to make this an email newsletter through FeedBlitz, but the RSS option will still be there for you RSS junkies out there.

I would appreciate any ideas, comments or feedback on this experiment. It’s still in the development stages and I will be fine tuning it over the coming weeks.

Check out the site at http://reportzero.wordpress.com and subscribe. The first “official” newsletter will be going out tomorrow night, and will then follow a schedule of Wednesdays and Sundays.

Thanks for all of your support!

Happy Thanksgiving!

No political commentary today. It’s a day to be with family and friends and give thanks for the things we have and remember those who sacrifice so much and cannot spend the day with their loved ones. My best to all of you and your families out there.

Enjoy your turkey and pie!

Site Update

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:18 am by Ryan

Well, I guess this is site update number 2. I don’t do this nearly enough, but I still think it’s good to keep up with you guys out there as to what’s going on (especially when I’m making changes).

First off, you have probably noticed that there has been a name change. The change happened for two reasons; first off, “A [sometimes] Logical View of the Illogical” was just too long. While it was a good name, when people would ask what my blog was called, it was just a mouthful. So I decided that it would be a better slogan than a name since the whole point is to continue to be a [sometimes] logical view of the illogical.

Second off, I decided I needed a name with meaning. It took me a long time to decide on a name, before realizing that the name was painfully obvious and with me all along:

Site Update and the State of Things

Posted in News, Uncategorized tagged , at 11:16 am by Ryan

It’s been a while since I did an update here… In fact, I don’t rightly know if I have ever given an official update.

Anyway, strange things are afoot over here at Arclight Enterprises. When I started this thing back in the end of February I wondered if I would be able to make a go at it or if I would just be doomed to obscurity like so many others. After all, I’m not professional, I don’t have any sponsors, advertising or notoriety. I simply had things to say and one way or another I wanted to get them out there. If people read them, great. If not, then at least I could say that I got something out there. However, it didn’t end there. I wanted to advocate for change as the turn that this country has taken recently makes me physically ill. I may not be able to influence Washington (or even Madison or St. Paul), but if I at least knew that there were others out there who had the same drive as I do, maybe there was some hope left. To be a nutjob, or not to be a nutjob. That is the question…

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , at 11:47 am by Ryan

Well, it’s finally happened. I have been identified as a Conservative whack job. Actually, more specifically I have been referred to as a “Konservative wack-job” (read the whole comment here) which made me grin a bit, as it always seems that the liberals out there like to be special and use special words and special spellings of things. I guess it’s part of the “everybody’s special and can do what they please” mentality among them.

But I digress, somehow I got pegged at some a large-scale liberal nut farm and they sent some of their finest over to me to tell me what they thought. While to an extent this pleased me, to another extent it got me thinking… Am I a “Konservative wack-job” as this self proclaimed “Fruit Fly” called me? I guess I never thought of myself that way. In fact, I always sort of considered myself to be a rather conservative Conservative, although I am very militant about what I believe in. So with that in mind, maybe this is the sign of things to come. Has the left gone so far left that they consider people like me to be Conservative, oh excuse me, “Konservative wack-jobs?” If so, I shudder to think as to how they perceive people who are hard core Conservative. Either way, let’s spend a minute here trying to figure out what makes me a “Konservative wack-job” in the eyes of this brilliant liberal analyst. Read the rest of this entry »

A Big Mistake

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 9:23 am by Ryan

I have, for the most part, stayed out of the affairs of The Stillwater Infidel. Drew Emmer and Pheisty have done a far better job of addressing the issue than I could have, so I simply thought it best to leave the topic in their capable hands. I have simply watched from a distance and made occasional comments regarding the abuse of free speech.

However, given the recent events and publicity, I can’t help but to wonder if we made a big mistake with this guy. Did we inadvertently give this guy exactly what he wanted? Did our constant attention and relentless pursuit propel this guy to legendary status while all the while we were actually trying to knock him down a peg or three?

Globalization Part 2

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , at 9:48 pm by Ryan

So, much to my surprise, my recent post on the realities of economic globalization was a recent topic over at “Conservative Compendium.” You can check out their post here.

While I am thrilled to be getting attention from other conservative sources, I am less than thrilled to be picked apart. But since I am nothing if not fair, I respect anybody who wants to pick apart what I say and tell me that I am wrong, and as such, I will return the favor.

The author, Brian Garst, makes some strong and very legitimate points, but I fear that his points are based much more on numbers and theories than actual experience. After all, you can look at the numbers all you want, but until you are actually in the trenches, the numbers don’t mean anything. Those of us who are involved in the manufacturing industry outside of the major metropolitan areas have a much different story to tell.
