Pelosi’s Price

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY

Congress: Americans expect and need a Speaker of the House who offers common-sense leadership to direct bipartisan legislative action. Nancy Pelosi is not up to that task, and our nation is the loser.

It’s bad enough that Rep. Pelosi refuses to embrace reality, evaluate facts and oversee meaningful debate. But the hissy fits she throws against President Bush and the Republican minority are worse yet. This is a sad situation.

Pelosi’s reaction to Bush’s lifting of the ban on offshore drilling is a perfect example. She called the action a giveaway of “more public resources to the very same oil companies that are sitting on 68 million acres of federal lands they’ve already leased.”

The key phrase is “public” resources — not Democratic resources or Pelosi’s resources — and polls clearly show Americans are behind coastal drilling. The speaker knows that.

Her demonizing of Big Oil doesn’t make sense, either. The companies want to get oil out of the ground. Their exploratory technology is very effective, and they’re drilling extensively. But not all lease properties have oil that’s readily recoverable.

Pelosi says the president’s action is a “gift of more profits for the oil companies.” Does she prefer that foreign, and often hostile, nations make the profits? Well, they are. She knows that, too.

“The Bush plan is a hoax,” Pelosi charges, ignoring the fact that we know large reserves are located off our shores, in Western oil-shale deposits and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Bush says let’s get it as quickly as possible, drilling responsibly off our shores, in the West’s oil shale formations and on 2,000 acres of the 19 million acres in ANWR. Prudhoe Bay, North America’s largest oil field, has proved we can do so and not hurt the environment. It can be done, and America needs it. Pelosi also knows that.

Pelosi wonders that if congressional action is so important, “why didn’t the Republicans pass it when they were in control?” She seems to doubt the need for any debate on drilling. This is scary.

The two parties have bumped heads on this issue since the Carter years. Surely the speaker remembers 1995, when she voted against a GOP bill to drill in ANWR. It passed both the House and Senate only to be vetoed by President Clinton. She knows that as well.

Last weekend, Pelosi responded to Bush’s criticism of Congress by calling him “a total failure.” It was a telling interview, with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer pressing her on topics including offshore drilling. Each time she blamed everybody but Congress.

The real failure is Pelosi’s refusal to address reality and lead. The nation knows that.

I know I have been rough on the big guy over the past few years. After all, the fat bastard is suffering from severe delusions of grandeur - something that I ordinarily don’t mind in and of itself, however Albert has taken it that next step by trying to jam his annoying opinions down our throats and pass it off as fact. That makes me mad.

But, Al Gore has proven to be useful in the sense that he excels at bringing out the only people on the planet worse than he is, thereby allowing us the opportunity to identify them as the complete wastes of carbon and water that they are.

For example, I did a news search for Al Gore this morning in an attempt to find a transcript of his bowel wrenching speech yesterday. While i didn’t immediately find a transcript to scrutinize, I did find something better… Christine Pelosi’s blog entry about it from Huffington. Yes, for those who don’t know, Christine is Nancy “I hate all of you Americans” Pelosi’s daughter, and perhaps one of the few people who makes her look like a decent human being by comparison.

Since Christine didn’t do much other than sum up the points Albert made, let’s take a look at what Little Pelosi jr. concluded about a speech that, for lack of any better way to put it, could possibly be the most outrageously insulting and delusional bit of trash to ever leave the lips of another human being…

Overall, a phenomenal call to service for a generation of Americans hungry for change. Gore’s speech ended to the U2 “Beautiful Day” soundtrack and an energized crowd ready for action.

Uh huh. But that’s not the best part. What makes this all worthwhile are the comments on her blog in response. I won’t repost all of them, but I will repost my favorites and let you bask in them for a while and gain an understanding as to why I say that Al Gore really brings out the finest stock of people…

If we grew Industrial Hemp on just 6% of our land mass of the lower 48 states we could run all of the energy for America now matter what it was used for including electricity….and it eats CO2 like crazy and spits out oxygen… — darthdarcy

Every time Gore speaks I am nearly brought to tears because he makes me recall all we could have accomplished and all we have lost in the last eight years. This issue above any other is the reason to vote for Obama. You may be rich and not want to get taxed, you may think we can succeed in making a lasting democracy in Iraq, you may think direct diplomacy in dealing with dictators is wrong, you may feel betrayed by Barack’s compromise on FISA, you may think that abortion is murder…but guess what? You cannot be pro-life and still cling to the “global-warming-is-hoax” argument. Barack Obama understands this as Gore does, and though McCain says he wants to tackle global climate change, his off-shore drilling position betrays this. The strict pro-lifers decided not to take their own advice by spearheading an immoral war based in cowardice and deep seeded fear of all things Middle Eastern, will the impending deaths of 6.5 billion force them to finally vote “liberal” (I still can’t believe the environment is a political issue)? I ask everyone with an open mind (and forcefully ask those that don’t) to truly examine who is the party that believes in preserving life. WE NEED TO ACT NOW! — luckynewman

The last eight years? Try the last thirty years, Carter tried to start getting America to realize the coming energy crisis. But Reagan and Cheney laughed him out of town. — liberal2

Yes, great speech. Omama should beg him to take the VP slot. — avraamjack

I was there. The announcement of the 10 year goal brought the house to its feet. Let’s do it. What could have been if he had been installed as president instead of whom we have now. — nickhp

There are others, of course, but you get the picture. As far as I can figure, these people are not living on planet Earth. I’m not sure where they live, but it isn’t here. But on the plus side, they’re good for a hearty laugh as well as serving as a reminder to us that the crazy people are getting more unhinged and are getting easier to pick out due to their wild-eyed fanatcism. With any luck, we’ll eventually start rounding them up and putting them into asylums - hopefully government-funded asylums since they seem to like socialized medicine so much - where they can get the labotomies and tranquilizers that they so desperately need.

P.S. As a closing note, McCain has once again proven that he is a dead fish and has no place amongst conservatives… he has also shown once again that no matter who wins this fall, we’re screwed:

“… there may be some aspects of climate change that he and I are in disagreement (on).” Of the goals Gore outlined Thursday for generating more electricity with solar and wind resources, McCain said, “If the vice president says it’s doable, I believe it’s doable.”

Having used my legal rights as a Wisconsin citizen, I have been investigating the links and relationships between Smoke Free Wisconsin and area local governments. While the ties and incestuous nature is not relevant yet, what is of interest is an individual I ran into who’s smugness prompted further investigation.

While I have been putting together the bizarre pieces of the tobacco puzzle, Joey went off to find out what she could about Eau Claire city council member, Brandon Buchanan.

Turns out the Brandon is a 26-year old commie with a serious chip on his shoulder. Ok, maybe commie is a bit harsh to the reds since this guy makes Stalin look like a swell pal.

This is from his page at RunforOffice.org, a young leftist recruitment center:

I ran for city council to deny the opposition another seat on this council. I also ran for council because I want to run for higher office some day. The right wing spends billions of dollars recruiting and funding local candidates to institute regressive policies at the local level and build up a farm-team of local candidates to run for higher office. We as progressives must do the same. That means candidate training and fund raising connections. Also, jobs for young elected officials so we can pay bills while working full time politically.

Yikes!

So it makes us wonder… Just what is wrong with the city of Eau Claire to have elected this guy to office?

I guess maybe it’s because of the promise of happiness and prosperity for all?

With a more progressive council, we could mandate employers guarantee paid sick leave to all their employees — even part time workers.

Uh huh. I shudder in my little right-wing boots when I read things like that. Land of the free indeed.

While I started out working on putting together the smoking ban pieces, I am starting to wonder if the people of Eau Claire simply get what they deserve by electing idealistic young “progressive” (read: commie) people like Brandon here.

What happens when the “compassionate” fingers of government get too involved in public health?

For those of you who are familiar with the pre-WW2 Nazi-era medical programs that were designed with the “common good” in mind (read “The Nazi Doctors” if you’re interested), this sounds eerily familiar:

Oregon Offers to Pay to Kill, but Not to Treat Cancer Patient

By Tim Waggoner

SALEM, Oregon, June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Lung cancer patient, Barbara Wagner, was recently notified that her oncologist-prescribed medication that would slow the growth of cancer would not be covered by the Oregon Health Plan; the plan, however, she was informed, would cover doctor-assisted suicide should she wish to kill herself.

“Treatment of advanced cancer that is meant to prolong life, or change the course of this disease, is not a covered benefit of the Oregon Health Plan,” read the letter notifying Wagner of the health plan’s decision.

Wagner says she was shocked by the decision. “To say to someone, we’ll pay for you to die, but not pay for you to live, it’s cruel,” she told the Register-Guard. “I get angry. Who do they think they are?”

This past Monday morning, however, Wagner had reason to rejoice. A representative from the company that manufactures the treatment called the cancer patient to say they would give her the medication for free.

“I am just so thrilled,” she said. “I am so relieved and so happy.”

Dr. Walter Shaffer, medical director of the state Division of Medical Assistance Programs, which administers the Oregon Health Plan, attempted to defend the health plan’s decision. “We can’t cover everything for everyone,” he said. “We try to come up with polices that provide the most good for the most people.” Shaffer then addressed a priority list that had been developed to ration health care. “There’s some desire on the part of the framers of this list to not cover treatments that are futile,” he said, “or where the potential benefit to the patient is minimal in relation to the expense of providing the care.”

According to an AP story on Wagner’s case, local oncologists in Oregon have said that, despite the Health Services Commission’s assertion that they were just clarifying policies already in place, healthcare practitioners have observed a sizable shift in policy in the way recurrent cancer is treated in the state. Increasingly, say local oncologists, sufferers of recurrent cancer are not receiving coverage for chemotherapy. They are always, however, eligible for state-funded assisted suicide.

Wesley J. Smith, a prominent conservative bioethicist, says that he was not surprised by the events.

“We have been warning for years that this was a possibility in Oregon. Medicaid is rationed, meaning that some treatments are not covered. But assisted suicide is always covered. And now, Barbara Wagner was faced with that very scenario.”

Smith also mentioned a similar circumstance that had occurred in the past: “This isn’t the first time this has happened either. A few years ago a patient who needed a double organ transplant was denied the treatment but would have been eligible for state-financed assisted suicide.”

Don’t doubt us when we say that tobacco control in the name of public health is a slippery slope. Once the government feels empowered to run your life and your business, essentially suspending the Constitution in the name of public health, it’s not long before it stats to spin out of control. Should some desk jockey get to decide who lives and who dies in the state? And under what rationale is this decision made?

Consider this a wake-up call.

Global Warming strikes again.

It would seem that a group of idiots taking a “climate change” tour up to the arctic to observe the ice melt and epic devastation that global warming has caused up there have run into a problem. The sea ice that was supposed to be disappearing and opening up that new shipping chanel over the top of the world has trapped the Kapitan Khlebnikov, a 24,000hp Russian icebreaker, in more ice than it can break free of.

Global warming indeed! here’s an exerpt from an article about the incident:

I am on the bridge of the massive Russian icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov, and the tension is palpable. We have hit ice - thick ice.

The ice master studies the mountains of white packed around the ship while the 24,000-horsepower diesel engines work at full throttle to open a path. The ship rises slowly onto the barrier of ice, crushes it and tosses aside blocks the size of small cars as if they were ice cubes in a glass. It creeps ahead a few metres, then comes to a halt, its bow firmly wedged in the ice. After doing this for two days, the ship can go no farther.

The ice master confers with the captain, who makes a call to the engine room. The engines are shut down. He turns to those of us watching the drama unfold, and we are shocked by his words: “Now, only nature can help this ship.” We are doomed to drift.

What irony. I am a passenger on one of the most powerful icebreakers in the world, travelling through the Northwest Passage - which is supposed to become almost ice-free in a time of global warming, the next shipping route across the top of the world - and here we are, stuck in the ice, engines shut down, bridge deserted. Only time and tide can free us.

Oh, and for the record, I had to scrape frost from my car’s windshield yesterday morning and had to turn the heat back on in the house as the temperature dropped below freezing. In May. Almost June.

Oh, and I don’t want to hear “climate change” either, because that’s what it does. It changes.

This may seem like a no-brainer here, but apparently it’s not. In this day and age of smoking bans, light bulb laws and calls for socialized medicine, it’s become painfully apparent that the people have lost their way.

So now it’s time to do a little reeducation.

The lesson that needs to be re-taught is the fact that the government is not here to help you. They are not an omnipotent power. They are not a power for good. They are not even all that smart. They do what is best for them, not you, and their underlying goal is more power.

Since I don’t want to get too far off topic, I’m simply going to apply this to smoking bans; although the concept can be applied unilaterally to nearly any other topic.

So, when it comes to smoking bans, why isn’t the government here to help you?

I hear the argument all the time. Nearly every day in fact. The government is doing what is best for us. They’re banning smoking to protect us. They’re only doing the right thing. Blah blah blah.

Really?

Have any of these people stopped to think about this? Have any of them stopped and realized that the only reason the government is involved in this battle and siding with the anti-tobacco nuts is because it works in their favor?

I have.

Let’s put this in perspective though. What is the overwhelming goal of government? To expand and grow its power and control. It’s a well-known fact and perhaps something that those in government doesn’t even realize they’re doing (although I suspect the vast majority do). The Founding Fathers of this nation realized this and Framed our government to help protect against such things. However, over time people have found and manipulated ways around the Constitution and have managed to grow and expand the government and exert power and control over the people in blunt violation to what the Framers intended.

As we speak, there are two prime offenders to freedom: one is environmentalism, the other is public health and the fallacy of “protecting us from ourselves.” Air pollution not withstanding, smoking bans fall under the latter of those two tools of control, and as a whole we should not be happy about this.

The anti-tobacco advocates, while perhaps good intentioned at one time, have become unwitting tools of government. They preach the values of “public health” and “saving us from ourselves” and do the dirty work of government. After all, who needs a ministry of propaganda when you have scores of zealots who will do it for you. The anti-tobacco crowd builds government power and undermines the concepts of a free nation as defined in our Constitution all in one swift motion.

But they don’t get it. They see the government as their friend and see their cause as right and just because the government says they are right. Need I point out the flaw in this logic? The government, by default, will side with any cause that nets them more control over the population. This is not rocket science. This is basic government systems 101.

So why don’t they get it? Because it’s a win-win situation and human nature is to be blinded by one’s own victory. They are winning the battle but losing the war, yet they can’t see past their own ego to realize this. All they see is that they got their way. Everything else is either irrelevant or inconsequential. The problem to face here not the anti-tobacco victory, it is the fact that they don’t understand that they are being used by the government to accumulate more power.

I’m not writing this as a conspiracy theory, I’m writing this as a wake-up call. This is truth plain and simple and those of us who care enough to open our eyes to what’s going on in the big picture understand that public health is being used to do exactly that which our Founding Fathers warned us against!

So just remember, the next time that anybody claims that the government is forcing smoking bans on us because they’re in our best interest you should remind them that the only thing that the government can do that is in our best interest where smoking bans are concerned is to allow us to live free and make our own choices. Anything else is just a power grab.

Doing some housekeeping

I am trying to get things put back togther as far as the blogging thing goes, and I have to say that I find some of the past year very funny.

Part of my housecleaning is dusting off some of the older posts and comments and trying to get a feel for what’s been going on and what burned me out so badly. While I have already ventured down the “my party left me behind” road and come to terms with that, I have to say that the number one burnout factor has got to be global warming.

Looking back, I get a good larf out of it. The pure lunacy of the people I (we) deal with on this issue is staggering. I mean, these people are either the worst sort of brain-dead sheep or they’re living on Venus. Either way, the number of times I could find where somebody called me out and told me to “look around, global warming is happening!!” or “people like you need to wake up, global warming is happening and it’s already too late!!” is unreal.

These people spoke with such heartfelt passion that it almost made you forget that their heads were so far up their asses that the only “warming” they knew was their own sense of self satisfaction as it warmed their little bellies.

What’s really interesting is how this merry little band of idiots is now struggling to come up with excuses to justify the fact that their definitive knowledge of climate and weather patterns has proven to be wrong. Notice how quiet they were all winter? Or are we just concerned about seasonal global warming? The rest of us might call that spring and summer, since yes, in fact things to warm up during those seasons and technically I guess you could call it global warming…

But seriously, with the exception of Al Gore who’s more concerned about building his monetary empire than actual environmental issues or science, we really haven’t heard any of the alarmist bullshit for months. Where did they go? These same people were the ones who were jumpig up and down every single day claiming that the sky was falling and the only way to save ourselves is to give Al Gore our money… Gee, I wonder if they feel smart now.

Is it possible that the hoax is coming full circle and the people who knew that they were right and we were nothing more than nasty liars in the same light as holocaust deniers are the ones who look like the idiots? I would hate to be the last one holding the bag on the global warming thing. When all is said and done and all the money wasted to line the pockets of Albert and all of his little friends under the guise of saving us from ourselves is tallied up… Somebody or some people are going to look like real fools.

Mark my words. Eventually people will catch on to the fact that weather and climate fluctuations do not signal global warming (i.e. cooling does not equal warming no matter how many pathological liars say it does).

But for all those who still don’t get it, don’t worry, I’m still selling my cooling offsets. For just $5, I’ll go into my freezer, grab an ice cube and put it out in my back yard to offset the warming. Just think, for just $5 you can feel better about yourself and your evil lifestyle.

And for those who do get it, I’m selling positive carbon offsets. So for just the price of one gallon of gas (at market rate, of course) you can increase your carbon footprint helping me run it through my ‘47 Plymouth with it’s uncatalyzed dual exhaust.

Think about it! I offer the best of both worlds. And who says I’m not equal opportunity?
